My Ramblings for Today

Seems there is an uproar about Bill Cosby’s comments in the past couple of weeks; what took you so long? Blacks have been suffering under this kind of balderdash for years. The mindset that produced this behavior Cosby is ranting about, came from the crap we got from our so called black leadership and we bought into it hook, line, and sinker. We fostered those attitudes. We made it chic to walk around with out pants hanging off our butts. We made it fashionable to say and call each other ‘nigger’. We associated doing well in school with being white, as well as using correct grammar. We told our black children that the white man had it out for us, so when we went to school and saw that white teacher, we naturally rebelled against him or her. We made ghetto life fashionable for young blacks so that they viewed that lifestyle as being hip. We are only reaping what we have sown for 40 years.

We monolithically vote for a political party that takes our votes for granted and promotes programs that keep us enslaved, and we smile as we pull that lever for the Democratic party as though we are doing ourselves a great service. We are less than 20 percent of the population, yet 50+ percent in the penal system. We are not victims, we actually perpetrated most of the crimes we were convicted of. We did this to ourselves, because we were not vigilant, we were not diligent in being intellectually prepared to participate in American political discourse, so we fall for anything our Democratic “massas” tell us. They tell us you have no voice, and you’ve been wronged. Let us be your champion, vote for us. So, we say “yasser boss!” and pull that lever. Yet, after 60 years of Democratic meddling, we are still on the bottom wrung of the ladder. Je$$e Jack$on responded to Cosby’s rant by saying that is what he has been saying since 1976. Ironically, that was what Jesse was saying back then before his mouth got surgically connected to the Democratic party behind. Somewhere he lost his message, his dignity, and my respect.

We are church going folks with conservative views, yet we vote for a political party that regularly violates our principles, whose political platform contains things that we don’t personally agree with, such as abortion on demand and alternative lifestyles. Why? Because we were told they stand for racial equality, that’s why. Yet their actions speak against racial equality. They don’t really believe the black man is racially equal, that is why they relegate us to programs from which we can not extricate ourselves. They promote programs they don’t adhere to. Our first “Black” president, Bill Clinton, would not push vouchers for alternatives to bad schools, so we were stuck in schools that failed us, with no choice. Yet Mr. Clinton wouldn’t send his own child to those schools he kept us in. Remember midnight basketball? Al Gore was asked would he allow his children to participate. His answer was his children had to be in bed because they had school in the morning. WHAT? You told us this was a great program, yet you won’t participate? Actually, I agreed with Al. Our children should have been in bed also, because they SHOULD have had school in the morning. Where was the outrage? There was none. I do remember, to his credit, Al Sharpton raising questions about this program. Sadly, the status quo is this: the Democratic party craps and we eat.
There used to be a saying in the black community: “You have to be twice as good to…”. Put anything in the saying; a good job, get ahead in school, etc. What’s wrong with being twice as good? We are close to that in sports. Where has the rugged individualism we had in the years when there was true racism? We were kings and queens. We are descendants of the people who built the pyramids. We had the first universities on the face of the planet. We were inventors and innovators. Our mark of excellence is stamped on the foundation of man. We invented the gas mask, the street light, cotton gin (a slave of Eli Whitney), were the first to perform open heart surgery, developed the techniques for separation and preservation of blood plasma, first to die in the revolutionary war. We are a people with a vast and rich history, purchased for us by great men and women who risked their lives for us. Now we are squandering the legacy left us. We are so quick to hide behind Martin Luther King who said we should be judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin. Yet now we call being judged by our character racism, and judgment by our skin color fair.

We have lost our way. Being forced to be twice as good was not a curse, it was a blessing in disguise. It forced those who went before us to rise above the virulent racism of their day and produce greatness. The generation that fathered me, instilled values that are lacking in our people today. Values such as courtesy, respect for your elders, respect for yourself, hard work, perseverance, bull dog determination, to succeed no matter what. Sadly, it is missing in this generation. We have failed them. We taught them to sidestep personal responsibility, and embrace the notion that everything bad in their lives is someone else’s fault. We are not in prison because we shot and killed someone, or raped someone, we are in prison because we are victims of white society. We are not poor because we were too stupid to revere and pursue education, it’s racism’s fault. Everything is someone else’s fault.

We are at a crossroad.

Where do we go from here?

Think about it; Bill Cosby was right. What took so long?
